We are Gerard and Marianne Kluver.
Together we run Dance School Kluver and we also teach the dance classes. Our dance school has a rich history. Gerard’s mother, Cary Wennink, founded the dance school over 65 years ago. Together with Gerard senior, she taught everyone the fine art of dancing for many years. Who knows, maybe your parents were taught by them! As a tribute, a plaque bearing their name still adorns the outside wall of our building.
About 40 years ago we took over the dance school from them. Over the years we have developed a unique instruction method that allows us to teach everyone Ballroom and Latin American dancing quickly and effectively.
The dance school is located in a monumental Amsterdam building. The building houses two dance halls, a cosy bar and is also our private residence.
The bar is always open before and after the lessons – a great opportunity to get to know your fellow students while enjoying a snack or drink!
Gerard is a fully FDO-certified (i.e. Ballroom as well as Latin) teacher, trainer and coach and was assessed at the top level (“highly commended’’) in the UK’s World Dance Council examination. Gerard is also qualified to train dance teachers. Gerard has danced at the top level in the Netherlands, in both Ballroom and Latin, in amateur and professional classes.
Marianne also competed at the top in the Netherlands, first as an amateur competition dancer and then with Gerard as a professional. She has extensive teaching experience and is highly praised for her patience with students. In addition to her work at the dance school, she has a speech therapy practice and uses her educational expertise to develop dance lessons especially suited for children.
